Fear that Hurricane Rita may not be as damaging as Katrina has touched off potent covering action.

When you get so many puts bought on so many retailers, you better hope that you get a bad hurricane and higher prices at the pump -- or else!

Today, we have a rally on the fear that Hurricane Rita won't be as bad as Katrina. That means that if you bought puts on Sears, Lowe's or Retail HOLDRs, you are sweating. That's the first time in two weeks that you have had to sweat on the short side.

We've seen what happens now. If Rita is even slightly more benign than Katrina...
